Student Fellowship Program
Looking for financial support for your studies? We provide scholarships of $750 per semester to select students who help promote the work of the Newman Institute for Catholic Thought & Culture. In addition to the scholarship funds, fellows receive unique formational and leadership training opportunities. They also commit themselves at least 5 hours a week during the semester to promoting the mission of the Institute.
The application deadline for the Spring 2022 semester is January 15, 2021.

When is the application deadline?
Applications for the Spring 2022 semester are due December 15, 2021.
Do I have to be a student at UNL?
No. While applicants must be degree-seeking students, they need not necessarily be enrolled at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Applicants are also welcome from other regional universities (Nebraska Wesleyan, Union College, etc.).
How are the funds awarded?
Student fellows have the choice of either applying the scholarship funds towards a Newman Institute course if they are registered concurrently that semester, or to have the scholarship funds deposited in their university account.
Do I have to be enrolled in an Institute class or seminar to be considered for a fellowship?
No. While students who have taken classes and seminars with the Institute might better understand the mission of the Institute, all student
If awarded a fellowship, am I eligible to apply again? Do I need to reapply?
Yes. However, past fellowships do not guarantee future awards.
Yes, if you have already received a fellowship in the past, you need to begin the process again and resubmit materials.
Do I have to be Catholic to apply?
No. The Newman Institute for Catholic Thought & Culture exists to promote the Catholic intellectual, moral, liturgical, and spiritual tradition. The Institute welcomes applicants of all or no religious affiliation so long as they work to promote this mission.
